One of the causes of meth addiction are that you want to get skinner. Another cause is that you feel over whelmed with things and you need the extra energy. An effect could be that everyone that is close to you gets hurt and especially if you have a child.

Cause of meth addiction is people don't gain weights.

Causes of meth addiction include : feeling overwhelmed, a need for the energy, weight loss, and others. Meth makes you feel "like a better mom." In the case of the video we saw. An effect would be that it is a threat to everyone around you, and it can cause family/friends too start using.

It takes a lot of dedication to leave everything and go to someplace entirely foreign. But this is really the only thing going for Nathan. His passion for souls reduces people to numbers, and numbers are very hard to treat like a person. Nathan also is incredibly thoughtless. He seems to care only about himself and his shabby appearance before God. For such a selfless act, Nathan seems to have entirely selfish motives that, as we have seen, can, and would tear Nathan’s family apart if not for his iron grip on them. His reasons for seeking souls seem quite similar to Peekay’s mother’s, decidedly less than satisfactory. And even Peekay’s mother had her love for her son, and her hard work as a seamstress to get him through school, going for her.
Nathan on the other hand couldn’t care less if Leah served him a decade or an hour, nor if Adah could walk and run. He only notices his daughters when they distinctly displease him or if they help, in some way in his plan for the Congolese village. He doesn’t notice how hard his wife works or how his actions hurt her.
He is nearly as thoughtless about his own congregation who he is trying to save. He doesn’t think to ask about his congregation, to see what kind of lives they live or why they’re even at the church. Even when problems like rashes or baptisms arise, he doesn’t ask what he could change, but rather what Africa could change.
He is, on top of all of this, clearly dismissive of women, and to a certain degree the black people. He is an ungrateful burden on the household from a purely productive point of view. And he really will not tolerate a single thought that is not his own. Add to this mess his entirely literal translation of the Bible, by which he justifies his prejudices, and Nathan constitutes a rather repulsive character. However, no character is entirely unredeemable, and despite this scathing review, I am still reluctant to declare him a failure, although I will without hesitation assert that his work in the Congo will not improve until both his character, motives, and practices change for the better.

I Personally don't like Nathan. I get that he wants to save the souls of the African people, and that's admirable, but his personality just seems corrosive. He thinks that it's bad to send women to college because they're either dumb or will be ruined by knowledge. You would think that a man with four daughters would learn, but he didn't. Also, with the Africans, I think that he is going about converting them all wrong. He calls them out on what they do wrong, he's stubborn, he doesn't listen to their ideas, and he provides nothing positive for the people to actually see. He just seems like he's bitter over not having a male heir, and he never really truly loved his daughters. I definitely agree with Adah's and Rachel's feelings towards him.

The video we watched today was very interesting. Some of the cause were: It made you forget all of your emotions, you feel like you get thing done faster, multitasking, more energized, help you cope with the pain you have or all the sadness in your life. There are side effects also. Which aren't the greatest. Here are some of them: you will probably get addicted, makes you paranoid, go into Meth Comas, lose everything you worked for, you dont have any emotions, and it does not just effect you. It also effects all the people around you, such as your kids, you wife/husband, friends and family, just everybody you happen to meet.

Some of the effects of Meth addiction are having tooth decay, yet also being filled with energy. It is a difficult drug to deal with. (as all are) but methamphetamine can be seen as a (better drug) because of the "high" side affects of being able to work longer and being able to go without meals. Which as we saw could be a plus for some. Even though if you lose to much weight it could prove deadly. It seems as though the cause for some people to use this substance maybe as a last resort, or sometimes they use it out of exhaustion. In the end i do not think the drug is not worth the side effects that some seem to think as helpful.

Not only does meth affect the person taking it, but the people around the person as well, and I think that's what hurts the most. I hate to think that because of a drug addiction other people around you are at stake, especially the family. Meth in a family eventually leads to the separation of a family. In the video today, many of the women interviewed regretted the pain they cause upon their children. Meth also affects the family by showing the children that there is nothing wrong with the drug if it gives you pleasure, causing the kids to be on the drug as well. In general, meth creates serious issues, such as memory loss, infections, and teeth decay.

The video we saw in class today explained that many moms in Utah end up having a meth addiction. Many of the women in the video explained that they just wanted to feel like a better mom and that meth gave them energy, caused them to lose weight, and reduce stress.

Some of the effects of meth addiction are that people will lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Addicts are energized and feel like they can do anything. Meth addicts also use the drug to avoid any emotional pain and to get a good feeling. These are all short term effects. The long term effects are much more brutal. People who use meth get severe infections in their mouth or from picking at their skin. Meth can also tear families apart.

Unknown said...

There are many different effects of meth. The user might think that some of these effects are helping them but in the end they are all harmful. They always lose there train of thought, and they also can't find word to describe what they are feeling. They have no emotions when they are high. And the final thing that happens is their teeth start to decay and they have to have root canals. So in the end it really is not worth it.

Today in class we watched a short clip on how 1 in 3 women use the very deadly drug, meth. This was a very scary, but very inspiring to me. I think that the women are using meth because, they want to be stress free, but still handle things around the house. But the problem by doing that is, you leave your kids alone, you lose teeth, you set a terrible example for your kids, and you become way too skinny and old looking. so please help people get off this awful drug.

I think people start to do this drug is because they get lonely and stressed out about everything so they just go and do this awful drug. But by doing that, that can cause your children to be alone and sad, it can cause others like your kids to think it is okay to do this awful drug. Please help get rid of this awful drug.

The effects of meth are usually instant. You can become addicted to it after the first hit. It is one of the most addictive drugs known to man. When you take the drug, you feel in control, which is why you are so likely to become affected easily.

People that have taken it, mainly mothers, have said that it gives them tons of energy, and they feel like they can "conquer the world". They said that small doses in the beginning of their addiction made them feel amazing. Interviewees in the movie said that it was the most amazing feeling in their life. These were just small doses.

When they were in the midst of their addiction, the smaller doses that used to have so much effect, didn't have as big of an effect. Then they needed to take a lot stronger doses to feel the effect they used to feel from small doses. Your body becomes dependent on the drug. Meth, or any drug for that matter, becomes as much of a necessity as water -- your body can't function without it. This is why you have withdrawal symptoms, and why an addict needs to use the drug so much. The drug becomes their drive, source of energy, and basically their everything. That is the reason it is so hard to quit.

Quitting is where you begin to realize all of the consequences of taking the drug. You begin to lose family, respect from others, self respect, and not to mention control over your life. Even after you quit, meth, or whatever drug you were abusing, has an everlasting effect on your life. In short, the effects of meth, or any drug, are catastrophic.

Meth is the most dangerous drug, and Utah is the 3rd in the meth use list. Some causes of meth addiction is to lose weight, another is that the user wants more energy throughout the day. This drug makes mothers think that it makes them a better mom, but its not true, its just to trick the brain. An effect that this drug has is that the people close to the user will be hurt, families will be torn apart.

Methamphetamine is a very powerful, addictive synthetic drug. It can be produced relatively cheaply with over the counter ingredients, giving it plenty of potential for widespread use. Meth works by stimulating the central nervous system and flooding the brain with dopamine, the neurotransmitter in the brain that makes you feel good. Meth is extremely addictive, so when a user starts, it is nearly impossible to get off. Prolonged use of meth can cause reduced brain function and word recall, psychosis or schizophrenia, and severe tooth decay, often referred to as "meth mouth".

To me Nathan Price seems selfish. Although it may look like he is trying to save other people and get them on their way to heaven, in reality all he is doing is trying to secure his own ticket to heaven. Though Leah sees him as strong and righteous, I feel like deep down Nathan Price thinks of himself as a coward. I even think that the inner coward doesn't let him talk about that,"Hero Wound". I think he actually knows how stubborn and arrogant he acts, but his inner pride gets in the way of changing anything about his actions.

Meth is dangerously addicting. Too addicting if you ask me. Meth is basically the worst drug you can put into your system. Many people use meth as an escape. It removes all feeling and makes everything "ok." It gives you energy and makes you thinner. Sounds great right? Plot twist; all your teeth fall out and you have the urge to peel your skin off or scratch out your eyes. Doesn't look appealing anymore. Meth takes. Meth has taken the lives of countless people, physically and mentally. And all it gives back is an illusion of happiness. For a bit at least. Meth hurts. Meth kills. Meth doesn't just affect you, it plagues your family too.

Meth is a dangerous, life consuming, hazardous drug that has taken the effect of many lives here in Utah. One of the main causes or "whys" I picked up from the documentary, was the a sense of superiority that these woman felt they had gained from dosages of meth. Most all of the meth users expressed that this drug not only gave them energy, but it also made them feel more confident, attractive, happy, clam, alert, and stress free. One woman stated that it made her feel as if she could conquer the world. Yet on the other side of this toxic drug is that it has damaged lives. Meth not only ruins lives, but ruins familys, deteriates the body, damages your brain, and many more health, physical, and mental effects. Meth is nothing to mess with, yet it's important to be aware of it's devistating tolls that it could have you as well as anyone around you.

Yesterday we watched a documentary on meth addiction. I have had a family member addicted. They are now in prison for there actions while high. The drug is a stimulating drug which makes it feel numb. To them it males then think everything is "ok". The drug is also found in teenagers too, because adhd or add Some of the prescribed meds have speed in them. They overdose and get the high feeling. But the high feeling comes with devastating effects. Tares apart family relationships. Everything you have close to you can be taken away. Love just because a word. To me it would be the end of life. With all of that gone what is there to live for? For them more drugs.

The effects of meth addiction that i wrote down were that they would neglect their children and then they would lose everything. What could cause this is people wouldnt feel happy because one of the guys in the movie said meth is 300 of ten.

One of the causes of meth addiction is that people are overwhelmed with stress. So they use meth to help cope with the stress. People need meth to be able to accomplish tasks throughout the day. So if someone needs something to help them get something done they turn to meth. Meth is a horrible thing and should not be used.

I think Nathan's motives are muddled. He expects the people of the Congo to respect him, when he has no respect for them. I believe he only went to the Congo to boost his ego as a holy man. I agree with Joseph, Nathan views the people who actually attend his new found church as simply numbers. How can you truly save someone when all they are to him is another person on the list of people he has "saved." I believe even Nathan knows that he is not serving the Lord.

I personally feel like Nathan is a coward. As The Poisonwood Bible progresses I see Nathan increasingly becoming more selfish. He seems to be very devout toward himself rather than others. For example, Nathan focuses on his salvation intently, while his relationships with everyone else spiral downward. I also agree with Sam Stevenson in what Nathan is trying to accomplish, which is to "... save the souls of the African people..." Although this idea has good intentions, Nathan in my eyes seems to be trying to go about this in all the wrong ways. He's very negative toward the African people and offers very little positivity. Nathan is not only negative toward men and women but has an even stronger opinion toward woman's right for knowledge. Even though Nathan has four daughters he is surprising still against the idea of women going to college. Over all it astonishes me how Nathan is so focused on himself that he can't take the time out to even imagine what life is like for his daughters, let alone most women in Africa.

I am with Abby in that i don't know if this is too late but its worth a shot since i saw this
I think Nathan isn't really doing any harm but at the same time he isn't really accomplishing anything. Even if he could get some of the African people to convert to christianity what would he get from it? A better seat into heaven? I think Nathan is trying to boost his ego, improve his image in the eyes of God, and that his motives behind the trip to congo are selfish and cowardly (Another thing i agree with Abby on). Nathan isn't helping the people of the Congo to survive, learn better hygiene, get better educations, or improve their living conditions. He is merely trying to convert them to his way of life with no reason to do it. He is doing nothing for the people of Congo other than to exasperate their fear of crocodiles. Nathan is a selfish coward with one goal in life; to look good in the eyes of God.

I believe that Nathan is someone who is chasing a dream for himself. Nathan wants the people of the congo to convert to christianity to accomplish his own goal. I agree with Abby when she said that Nathan does not care about the people in the congo just himself. The people in the Congo are facing bigger problems and have other things they need to worry about like everyday necessities and just basic living . Nathan tries so hard to be a good christian that he forgets the basics of his religion. He is so caught up in trying to do Gods work he forgets that we are all children of God and that we are all equal as humans. To me Nathan is a person trying so hard to do good, he makes himself look bad. Overall i believe that everyone has good in them and no one is all bad. I see this in Nathan and hope throughout the book we can see him grow as a christian and as person, looking out for the best interest of others and putting others before himself. If Nathan does that he will have a better chance to accomplish his goal.
