Freshman English 9A (periods 1, 2, and 4): Today we focused on three key ideas: The introductory paragraph, thesis formation, and the literary concept of theme. We read Langston Hughes's poem "Mother to Son" and focused on the theme of the poem via a sample introductory paragraph. We'll spend one more day on this on Tuesday. Freshman English 9B (period 3): Today we focused on Wallace Stevens's "13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" and the different ways Stevens sees the blackbird in each stanza. We will continue this tomorrow. Your homework tonight is to read for 20 minutes.
