Prompt: How would the plot of Lord of the Flies have changed if, instead of being all boys on the island, all the characters were girls?

I feel that if the characters in Lord of the Flies were all girls, there might have been less chaos. I mean, let's face it, girls are typically more orderly than men.
Also, throughout history men have been known to be the "hunters and providers" which obviously isn't true today, but may have been back then. Whereas Jack was focused on nothing but hunting and survival, I think that girls could uphold a makeshift civilization for awhile longer, and I think they would keep the fire going.
On the other hand, they may not do what it takes to survive long term. For example, slaughter a pig. Sure, they could forage for berries, but that wouldn't last. We need protein.
So, a group of boys vs. a group of girls each have pros and cons. Girls would more likely stick to a plan of action better than the boys, but may not be as well-equipped for long-term survival on an island. Boys; however, may be able to fend better, but as the book demonstrates, chaos would likely ensue.
When I read Lord of the Flies in seventh grade, me and a few other girls came up with this question. We wrote an alternate book - called Queen of the Butterflies.
In our book, it was much more orderly- we domesticated the pigs, replanted grass and flowers where the 'scar' was left, didn't kill anyone, and overall, got rescued much quicker.
I believe that if it was girls, all the above would happen, and the book would not be nearly as famous as it is, because of the lack of violence.
I disagree with Jami. Who says girls can't hunt?
I agree with Kalia and Jami that girls would last longer than boys. They are smarter, and wouldn't go rogue and kill each other. (Lets face it guys, it's not normal to see girls punching and slamming each other into lockers in the halls.) Boys are generally taught to want to kill, hurt, and try to be better than others. Girls are taught to be quiet, shy, and just agree with what the others say.
The problem for the girls is that they wouldn't be able to elect a leader. They would all agree with each other and eventually get nothing done. The problem with boys is that they all want to be a leader, and, as demonstrated in Lord of the Flies, this doesn't work.
Overall, I believe girls would last longer on the island than the boys in Lord of the Flies (I mean seriously they only lasted like 3 weeks!!), but that nobody could live there long term. I don't think the girls' deaths would come from murder, but from lack of food, because really girls can't hunt,(let's face it girls). We might be able to play basektball better than the guys (lol just kidding ps great game tonight guys! And nice win against Murray:)), but I'm sure most girls have no idea how to hunt (I for one don't.)
I would say the only way for survival would be rescue, and if the same events happened as in Lord of the Flies, the girls would be rescued. So therefore I have to agree with Kalia that if the characters were girls the book wouldn't nearly be as famous as it is because of the lack of violence.
Well I agree and disagree with what the others said. I agree that girls may stay more civilized but it could always turn chaos. For example, girls tend to get more scared and over react to things more than boys. In Lord of the Flies the boys were scared of a beast. If it were girls they would all be freeking out and crying. Also there would be lots of bickering between the girls. Girls also tend to hold a grudge over things. All the girls would just be mad at eachother and not get anything done. I also agree with Jami that the girls may not be the best hunters. If it were me i wouldnt want to kill the pig, id want to keep it as a pet. I think girls may stay more civilized and not try to kill eachother, but there would still be alot of issues.
I agree with Rachel, Kalia, and Jami. If it were all girls there might not have been as much chaos. They also would have focused more on survival than hunting like Jack did like Jami said. But i also agree with Jami that they wouldn't be willing to slice open a pig and they would only forage for berries and wouldn't last due to lack of protein, which is something that people cannot survive without. Everyone else had good ideas and i agree with them.
