I read the Book Thief and some of the main ideas were that the girl didn't know how to read until the man that she lived with taught her some words while reading a book that the girl got while burring her brother. Personally I did not like it because of the types of books that I read and this book just didn't appeal to me like it might have to others like I and I also did not like how her brother died, her mom sent her to a different home, and that death was telling the story because in my opinion death telling the story is a little creepy. Jacob Period 1
the book i chose to post a comment about was Of Mice and Men. One of the main ideas of the book were about two men who want to own a piece of land but first they have to come acrosse some money. So they decide to work on a ranch for a month. I liked the book because it had shown that each character had a completely diferent personality. I also like that each event was very unpredictable keeping my interests up in reading the book. David Period 1
I read the Book Thief. I didn't really like it. I thought it was boring. But i thought it was pretty sad when her younger brother died. And if i was the girl i wouldn't have taken the book that was one of the grave digger's book. I probably would have picked it up and retired it to him. You never know if that book was really special to him. Or it could even happen to you and you would probably want your book back.

I chose to write my review about, "The Book Theif". The main ideas of this book was that a young girl was sent to a foster home, and there she learned to read. She attended school, had friends, and did what she was told. She missed her mother, and her brother who had died on the way to the foster home. This girl grew up in the Nazi time, in the end she lost her foster parents, best friennd, and everybody else on Himmel Street in a bomb blasting.
Personally, I didn't like this book. It was written it death's point of view, which I find quite creepy. This is a different genre of book than I usually read. Although I didn't enjoy it at all, I think it shows us how the Nazi time period was.

The book Im choosing is Of Mice and Men. One of the important ideas is that there are two men who share a dream about owning there own farm. They have to work on ranches to achieve this dream. This is one of my favorite books because of the way John Steinbeck portrays his characters. Lucas Widdowson Period 4
The Book Thief is an amazingly written book by Mark Zusak. It begins when death claims a young boy’s life in the center of German devastation. The death initiates a whole new beginning for his older sister Leisel, meaning stealing her very first book in attempt to learn how to read it.
Throughout the story Leisel has numerous unbalanced situations that she has to endure; some positive, many negative, few moments of content, and an unreasonable amount of grief. She gains a new family to whom her foster father teaches her how to read, which prompts her to steal books with her new friend, Rudy. The stealing of books is mostly because she cannot afford to buy them, considering the Nazi war is costing Germany an abundance of money, but also just for the thrill. Sharing her books and stories with an undesired Jewish guest Max, who she grows to love relieves her feelings. Once max is gone she writes everything down creating her own book called the “The Book Theif”. In the very end she loses all her family and friends in a Nazi air raid to her town killing most.
I can understand where people are coming from when they say that they didn’t like the book, because at first I didn’t like it either and I respect their opinion but soon I grew to love it. We need to have a more open mind and try to understand what the authors point was. If your only reason is that it was boring or it’s not like the books you usually read it’s personally not a good enough reason to me. It was assigned to us so we can step out of our comfort zone and maybe learn something.

I chose to type about the book Funny in Farsi. The book was written by an Iranian woman, who talks about her life in America. Each chapter includes funny stories from the time she moved to America all the way to her crazy honeymoon. She writes about all the differences between the Iranian and American cultures. I loved reading about her crazy family and how they all adjust to the American lifestyle. Some of my favorite stories included her fathers tellivision appearence on Bowling for Dollars, her experience in France, and when her and her husband judged a beauty padgent. Though the book showed a darker side to Americans, I thought it was a good book a definatly worth reading.

I read Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter, the main ideas of the story are about this man who discovers Abraham Lincoln's diary. From the diary he learns about Abraham Lincoln being a vampire hunter. The diary starts with Abraham as a child when he discovers that vampires are real and during this time his mother is killed by a vampire.
Years later, after mach training, Abraham Lincoln takes on quest to kill all the vampires in the United States, while also performing his duties of president.
I personally liked the book but some parts in the story but some parts are a bit gruesome. In particular the description of his thoughts while his hunting vampires are a bit disturbing.

Of Mice and Men is a story about two men, George and Lennie, who are planning on making their own farm and living off the land. First they must gather some money, but because if Lennie's mental disability it is hard for them to keep a job. After making themselves at home at their new job Lennie is given a puppy to help his need to touch soft things but shortly after Lennie kills the puppy on accident. Sadly another accident is caused by Lennie leading George to what he believes is right.
This is one of my favorite reads because it was significantly shorter then The Book Thief.

The Book Thief is a saddening novel about a young girl who goes through hardships such as the death of her brother, being separated from her mother, and the deaths of her foster parents and her best friend Rudy. One of the main ideas is finding good from bad. Liesel does this by finding joy through stealing and reading books. By doing this she not only entertains herself but inspires Max, a jewish man hiding in Liesel's foster parents.
I liked the book not only due to the content but i also thought it was unique the way the author decided to make death the narrator of the story. At first i found this strange but as the story went on the more interesting it sounded. All in all i thought The Book Thief was a unique and interesting story.

Over the summer I read three books: Funny in Farsi, The Book Thief, and Of Mice and Men. I found them all to be interesting in their own ways.
However, the novel I am choosing to write about is Funny in Farsi. This book was written by an Iranian woman who's family moved to America. They moved to the U.S. because of the principles of Freedom and Opportunity. The author goes on to explain funny stories in her memoir, which made the book especially enjoyable.

The book I chose to review is Of Mice And Men. It features two wandering workers: George and Lenny. George is a witty and smart man, but he's small. Lenny is the exact opposite. Although Lenny is a sweet man, Lenny doesn't think about what he does.
George and Lenny's dream is to scrape together enough money to buy a small cottage and live off the land.
I loved this book because it made a really vivid picture about what life was like back then. It was a very riveting story, with a very surprising ending. This was one of the best books I have read in a very long time.

I chose to comment about "Of Mice and Men" because I liked it better than the other book we had to read. I felt that the main idea of the book was not so much about two guys needing money to own their own land but more about the commitment that George had to Lennie as his loyal friend. Lennie seemed to have had some disability the made him not fully understand the consequences of his actions. This led to the end of the book were while working on the ranch Lennie unintentionally killed the wife of a short tempered man, so as a consequence he was going to get killed by all of the ranch hands. George felt it was his responsibility to make Lennie's death as peaceful and as painless as possible. Atticus Mannebach period 1
I read a book called mice of men where two friends dream about having there own land and living just by themselves, but first they have to go to work and get money in order to have their own land. I thought the book was very interesting considering that George was a small scrawny kid and Lennie being really big. Also the book got me bored but towards the end i got back into it Danny Period1
I read the Of Mice and Men. The main ideas of this book were that two men were looking for a job. Lennie was strong, but he was dumb. George took care of Lennie. I liked the book because it had good to wrote by characters personality. Yongjun Choi Period 4
The book I'm going to review is "The book thief, honestly i did not like this book it was really long and i got bored most of the time, i got confused when death started speaking. Some main ideas are when the girls bother dies, and when she learns how to read, when she moves to her foster family. Another main idea is when she steals books from the library from the mayors house. The first book she leans to read is "The grave diggers book" and her foster dad teaches her how to read. She steals books from the mayors house and does it for a while until she gets caught by the mayors wife. And more she goes out more friends she meets, she meets a boy next door that likes her, and challenges her to race, and if he won he got a kiss from her and if she won he got nothing. Yamirth Arano, Period 4
I read Of Mice and Men. The main idea of this book was a story about two men that were searching for a job. Their names were George and Lennie. George was an under sized man. His friend Lennie was a tall strong man. But Lennie had trouble processing thoughts and he was so big that he would hurt delicate things that he loved.
The writer made some of the sentences sound like poems. I was surprised on how the characters reacted to racism. It showed racism as it was back then. It had a tragic ending when George had to kill his friend Lennie. George knew that if he didn't kill Lennie, he would have died a painful death.
I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was the best book I read over the summer.

I read the book Of Mice and Men. I think the main idea was about migrant workers who just couldn't seem to catch a break in life. The book showed how the main characters struggled to find work and stay out of trouble. They were always working for nothing. I thought the book was good. It didn't make life seem super great back then, and it probably wasn't. Compared to other books I have read this one actually has a point. Dominique Period 4
Over the summer i read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Narrated by death him self, he tells the story of Liesel Meminger and her desire to read books. Even if she can't read at first she slowly learns, thanks to Hans Huberman her foster father in the nighttime. During the day she suffers and experiences the rough love, constant insults and swearing from her fowl mouthed foster mother Rosa.
I enjoyed the book and found it a very interesting read, I even suggested for my parents. Though I will admit that there are some gruesome parts in this book, and that I will not suggest this to any one under the age of ten.
In the past I have read other World War II books and I found this one to be better than others such as Yellow Star. The Book Thief gives a different perspective than other books, for it puts the main character in Nazi, Germany. Over all its a good book, giving different perspective of World War II and the way that the author cleverly made death the narrator, makes me give this World War II non-fiction four of five stars.
I read the book Of Mice and Men. This book is about two friends traveling together trying to get a jod so they can own their own farm one day. Lennie is a big, tall and not so bright man who is watched over by his friend George, a small scrawny man. Together they go to a small farm and work so they can own their own land. The book goes on and Lennie ends up killing the wife of the farm owners son, who is a mean person and wants to kill Lennie because he doesn't know that it was an accident. In the end George kills Lennie so he doesn't have to suffer a painful death. I think that Danny O'Brien brings up a good point, in that the book was not that interesting thill Lennie killed the farm owners son's wife.Sam Garcia Period 1
I chose to write about Of Mice and Men. in this book, two men are trying to save up enough money to buy a house, and run into many problems along the way. The character known as Lennie acts too childish for his age, and gets in a lot of trouble. He accidentally killed a woman, and then was killed.
I read " Of Mice And Men." i thought that the main idea was a little confusing when i first started the book but as i was nearing the end it all starting sort of making sense to me. Such as near the beginning when Lenny and George are walking down the path and they seem to be bit run down. but as the book progresses you learn more about why they are where they are.
Over the summer I read Of Mice and Men By John Steinbeck. The book is about Two men named Lennie and George. George is the character who was short, strong and smart and Lennie was the bigger but not very smart. They traveled together because George was taking care of Lennie because Lennie's aunt, aunt Clara, couldn't take care of him anymore. They moved from different towns a lot because Lennie did bad things they couldn't stay. The main part of the book was Lennie and George trying to find somewhere to live happily. Unfortunately at the end of the book Lennie does another bad thing and he runs off into the forest and George comes like he said he would at the very beginning of the book and shoots him in the back of the head so that Lennie wouldn't feel anything so they don't get their happy land.
I thought this book was one of the best books I've read but it was kind of hard to understand because All of the charcters would say something like "He wasn't never gonna do that" so I got confused a little bit but got used to it after a while. The book was placed back when there was racism because Crooks was treated differently because he was African so he had to sleep in the barn. This book was fun to read and I would give it a four out five stars.

The book that I read was Funny in Farsi. The main idea of the book was that Firoozeh Dumas and her family moved to America from Iran in 1972. Her father an older brother were the only ones in the family who spoke english fluently, the others only knew certain words. What made the book funny of her family doing things that are considered normal for us like going to the store, and having entire different experiences than we would have. While we would not be surprised at the amount of food in stores they were overwhelmed. Also when Firoozeh's father was on Bowling for Dollars, they would not have thought that it was suspicious that no one had ever one. We would think that the producers had messed either with the bowling alley or the bowling balls had been messed with.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I thought the author did a good job making the reader get interested in the book. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a little Iranian history, a lot of laughs, and a different view of the American lifestyle.

This summer I read the book, "Of Mice and Men". The main characters in the book, Lennie and George, are great friends who have worked together, but have troubles keeping a job. One of the main ideas in the book was their dream to one day own their own farm, and live the way the always have wanted to. Sometimes their dream seems out of reach because of the bad situations they are put into caused by Lennie's mental disabilities. I personally liked the book because I thought it was very well written, and had a characters I could really visualize.

I read The Book Thief this summer. Some of the main ideas of the book are, abandonment, and death. Liesel, (the main character), was abandoned by her mother by being dropped off at her foster parents house. Leisels brother got sick on the train and later died, and at the end of the book her best friend Rudy dies, along with her foster family. In my opinion, The Book Thief has a better plot than the other books i've read, because it is realistic and has both good and bad parts, for example Liesel learns to read, and shares her books with Max, the Jewish man they rescued. but has a much worse ending than most books, because everyone dies at the end. I read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. I figured the narrator of the book was Death, and through out the story he has a tendency to define moments by their colour. Deaths first encounter is with Lisel Meminger, a nine year old girl who is brought to Molching, Germany to be fostered. There she learns how to read by her foster father, how to become a theif, expierences what it is like to have a bestfriend, and learns the dangers of hiding a Jew. I personally Loved this book because the author provided creative and vivid details, there for I had a mental image of every page. Each character grew on me with their individual personality and emotional life story. Towards the end of this book it graciously effected some perspectives in my life. It definitely made me think twice about the simple things I constantly complain about. Over all, I would recomend it only to those who are in for a long read.

The book I read was Of Mice and Men. It is about two migrant workers who travel around the U.S. looking for jobs on farms. One of the main ideas is that you should never give up on someone. For example George never gave up on Lennie no matter how many mistakes he made. George had a lot of persistence throughout the book weather it was sticking with Lennie or the work on the farm he just never stopped being persistent. I thought the book was pretty slow at first, but once Lennie killed the farm owners wife at the climax of its plot it became exciting. The reason I thought it was slow was because the story was the same for the majority of the book. Overall I thought this book was good.
I read "Funny In Farsi, a Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America" by Firoozeh Dumas. This book's main idea is to appreciate family and to realize how important family is. Personally I thought this book was horrible, I did not enjoy it at all, this is why I chose to write about this book. I think this book does not follow a main point, because in the book, Firoozeh skips around very much and too often. For example, she goes from talking about an experience she had when she was seven, to speaking about an experience she had with her children or husband. For this, I thought this book was one of the worst books I have ever read.
Narrated by Death, The Book Thief is the story of Liesel Meminger, a nine year old girl growing up in Germany, 1939. After her younger brother’s death, Liesel is sent off to live with Hans and Rosa Hubberman. Liesel becomes fascinated when Hans teaches her how to read, and she soon finds comfort from reading and stealing books. Because of the man who saved his life, Hans hides a Jew, Max Vanderberg, in his basement. Liesel and Max soon become close friends. At the end of the novel, Liesel sees Max being marched off to a concentration camp, and loses all hope. She begins writing her life story in the Hubermann’s basement, surviving an air raid that kills everyone she knows. Liesel and Max live past the war, and she dies of old age at the end.
The main idea of The Book Thief is how everyone must make hard choices in the novel, and how it influences their lives. If Rudy’s parent’s had sent him off to school, he would have never been killed in the air raid. Also, if Hans hadn’t stood up for the Jew, Max would never have left the Hubermann’s basement. Finally, if Max hadn’t left the basement, he might not have lived through the war. These choices reflect the outcome of the novel.
I enjoyed the Book Thief because I found it interesting how Zusak used Death’s perspective to tell the story. I liked how Zusak had Death tell his own point of view of the story. This made the novel exciting and fun to read. Plus, it had a lot of suspense, which I like because it keeps the story captivating and makes me wonder what is going to happen next. I believe that this was a well written and moving book.

When I heard the title Funny in Farsi, I thought of the exotic Persian culture that is foreign and mysterious to me. After reading the first chapter of the book, however, I realized it was about a family much like my own.
Funny in Farsi is about family, and acceptance. In this story, a youg Iranian girl's family is not accepted by some people for superficial reasons like names, accents, and outward appearences. The people that truly knew the Iranians realized that they had the same interests and faults of any other family. I thought it was interesting to read about how the Iranians both embraced their own culture, but were fascinated with all things American. This book also showed how close the family was, and how concerned they were for eachother.
I thought this book was very good because it was humorous, interesting, and meaningful. I felt like I could connect with many of the characters, and some even reminded me of people I know.
Overall, this book was about a seemingly odd family that ended up being very much like everyone else. I really liked this book.
This summer I read "Of Mice and Men", in this book it talkes about two men trying to find work to do. George one of the main characters is a small cranky chill guy, Lennie a big guy who has a mental disability, he likes to pet soft things like animals, and other peoples hair. Lennie looks up to George a lot because of his mental disability, so Lennie depends on George to guide him and be his friend. George and Lennie both share the same dream to own their own farm land. I think this was an okay book but I do recommend it to the readers who like realistic fiction books. Rihan Period 4
The book Of Mice and Men is about two very different friends, George and Lennie, who dream of owning a farm for themselves. George is a small bright man who looks after Lennie, a large strong person who is mentally disabled. They travelled to various places to gain money in order to achieve their dream and have hopped from job to job because of troubles that Lennie unintentionally causes. While working at a ranch in California problems arise which test the two men’s friendship to its limits.
I thought this book was good. It was not the most thrilling book I have read, but it had a good story line. I liked how the author portrayed the different characters and how he brought them to life. The story was interesting and got to the point. It did not drag on with pointless details like many novels. However, I found the climax of the story somewhat disturbing. The violent events that unfolded were not pleasant thoughts. Ciarra Period 4
I am choosing Of Mice and Men. This book is about a pair of a young men with a big dream of making it on their own. George, the smarter and sort of "Alpha" of the two is the brains and protector of the duo. Lennie is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but is incredibly strong and loving,(especially of soft things.) The two work together, travel together, and get through the hardships of the life they are living because of eachother. This book is quite short, but it has a few dominant themes. The first is their travel to this farm that will giv them the financial boost they needed to get their own place. The second is the time at the farm where Lennie and George meet new characters such as: Curley, Candy, Slim, and his wife. The final theme for me what the hardest, the one where Lennie's lack of intellignece, size of heart and strength get the better of him again.
I loved this book and although the ending left me a wet eyed mess, I would definitely put it up for recommendation.

They win the battle and Alyss is now the queen of Wonderland. Redd is locked up in a mine.

I am choosing "Of Mice and Men". This book is about two friends, Lennie and George who travel together. George acts like an older brother figure to Lennie the "slower" one of the duo. Along their journey, Lennie tends to get in trouble a lot, making the two travel from ranch to ranch searching for work. And when they finally found somewhere to stay, A twist of events happen. The main idea of the book to me, was the thought of the two owning their own place, and living off the "fatta da' lan". I personally liked this book because the visual images really let me connect to the book better, and the theme I saw was appreciating what you have.

I read the book Of Mice and Men. I thought it was interesting how Lennie’s living in an environment where people don’t necessarily understand him and why he does what he does. They don’t know why he acts different then them so they think it is a bad thing and they pick on him. It’s really emotional because he doesn’t realize they are being mean to him. Although the book was short it showed an important message of friendship. No matter what George was always there for Lennie when he needed help. Even at the end of the book George didn’t want to see the other men kill him so he thought he was doing Lennie a favor. I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for a great read.

One of the books i read over the summer was Funny in Farsi. This book is a memoir by Firoozeh Dumas talking about her experiences growing up in America as an Iranian immigrant.
In the book, Dumas puts a lot of emphasis on the importance of family. Even when she grows up and moves out, her parents are still the first people she calls when anything happens. She lightly makes fun of her dad throughout the book, but in a very loving way.

Mother Teresa once said, "If you judge people, you have no time to love them." This quote represents the friendship and love between George and Lennie, the main characters of the book "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinback.
An unlikely pair, George and Lennie, travel side by side during one of the hardest periods of US history, The Great Depression, when at the time it was every man fend for himself. The duo remind themselves of their "American Dream" and continue to strive forward.
Friendship, strengths & weaknesses, and the "American Dream" are some of the main ideas of the book, "Of Mice and Men."
George and Lennie's friendship is full of devotion and love, even though Lennie repeatedly states phrases like, "God a'mighty if I was alone I could live so easy. No mess at all, and when the end of the month come I could take my fifty bucks and go into town and get whatever I want." George's frustration with Lennie increases as Lennie's incapability to fully understand and take responsability for his actions cause pain not only for Lennie, but George as well. Their differences are immediately noticed, but their similarities are what hold them together.
An obvious strength in the book is physical strength, which is possessed by Lennie, who has the form of a bulky, hard-working man. Many characters throughout the story show their weaknesses and strengths. For example, Curley, the authority of the ranch where George and Lennie work, makes it clear that his strength is intimidating men and women being the champion boxer he is. Another example, Crooks, the African-American stable-hand at the ranch, takes advantage of Lennie's innocence and torments him, something men at the ranch have done to Crooks. Something important: Never build your emotional life on the weaknesses of others.
The "American Dream" is a dream many people hold in the United States. This dream fills one with fulfillment and hope. George and Lennie share a dream. To own their own shack and land, to be able to do whatever they like and for Lennie to own his own bunch of rabbits. Once at the ranch, Lennie shares this dream with a few men; Candy and Crooks grasp some of the hope in George and Lennies' original plan and offer their abilities if they were be allowed to be apart of the dream.
Like most books, I flipped through the first few pages of the book and lost interest. I decided to give it another shot because well, I had no choice. I finished the book in one day as it is an easy yet captivating story. In the end, I've enjoyed other books a bit more, but I still recommend this book to those who are in for a few gasps. Thank you.

Over the Summer I read Of Mice and Men. I found it to be a timeless story, two men working day and night in the hopes of running their own business. The Classic American story. There were two main characters in this book, the first one was Lenny. Lenny was a very big man who had an obbcession with petting soft things, which sadly leads to his death. The second main character's name was George. George was kind of like Lenny's mentor and guide. And Lenny felt that he was holding George back by the end of the story.
Overall I liked the book, it was well written and short.

I read the book thief. The book is about a girl named Liesel who had to expirience multiple big jewish deaths in the hollowcost. She lived with her adopted father Hans Huberman who taught her how to read and right. The book started off good with only short deaths pertaining to the colors of the German flag red, black, and yellow. But, as the book went on it got more and more dull with more detailed deaths. IN conclusion, i think the book was not suited to my ideal likings in violence and death. Jacob Bowersox (aka. Tweety) period 1
Dear Mr. Baird,
I was going through my blog comment and realized that i had a few mistakes and could do better so i decided to rewrite it.
I read a book called "Of Mice and Men", where two friends dream about having their own land and living just by themselves, but first they have to go to work and get money in order to have their own land. I thought the book was very interesting considering that George was a small scrawny smart kid, and Lennie who was really strong but not so smart. This book was very saddening because Lennie kept killing little delicate things that he loved. In the end George ended up saving Lennie from an even worse death from the people that were after him.
You could also tell that at the farm that Lennie and George worked at there was discrimination. An african american named Crooks was treated worse then the others. This really bothered me. Lastly this book was very sad and a very interesting book that i enjoyed reading over the summer, but while reading some parts in the book I got very bored. I would still like to know what George did after he shot Lennie. For example if George ever got to have his farm, or if George stayed at the farm where he and Lennie had worked. Overall it was a good book, and I would like to see the movie.
